Zapier is a platform that allows you to automate workflows between two or more services. Here’s an overview on how to use Range’s Zapier app to create custom workflows—referred to as “Zaps”—that trigger new suggestions in Range.
How to create a Zap
After accepting the early access program invitation, click the orange ‘Make a Zap!’ at the top of your screen.
Set up your trigger
- Step 1: Choose App & Event
Select the app you want to connect with Range by selecting it from the dropdown menu or typing in its name. Your Zap will be triggered by events that occur in this app.
Note that not all apps available to you will be presented in the dropdown menu.
Next, choose your Trigger Event from the dropdown. This is the event from the app you selected that will trigger the Zap. For example, adding a label to an email.
- Step 2: Connect your app account
You’ll be prompted to log in to the account of the app you selected in Step 1. Once you’ve done this you will be able to continue customizing your trigger.
- Step 3: Customize your trigger
You can customize your trigger options to fit yours or your team’s needs depending on the app you select in Step 1.
- Step 4: Test your trigger
Be sure to test your trigger to see if it pulls in the right data before your move on to setting up your action.
Set up your action
- Step 1: Add Range as an action
Type Range in the search field to find our service. Then select the Action Event you want to use for your Zap.Supported action events
New Suggestion — Creates a suggestion for your next Range check-in
- Step 2: Connect your Range account
To connect your Range account, you’ll be prompted to provide an API Key. To do this, follow the link in the pop-up window or go to ‘Developer settings’ in your Range account. Once there you’ll be able to generate an API Key, copy the key and paste it into the Zapier window
Warning: API keys give services access to your Range account. Treat them like passwords and keep them safe. If you think they may have been compromised, revoke the token immediately.
- Step 3: Customize your action
During this step you’ll determine how the information from your “trigger app” is populated in Range.
Ways to use the new app
If there’s an app you use at work for which Range does not already have a native integration, the Range Zapier app will be especially helpful.
Use this app to automatically send new check-in suggestions to your Range account. Here are some example use cases:
- Track new and ongoing incidents from PagerDuty
- Share progress on projects in Basecamp, Airtable, or Smartsheet
- Stay up-to-date on sales opportunities from Copper or Salesforce
- Communicate resolution of support issues from Zendesk, Intercom, or Freshdesk
