Zapier is a platform that allows you to automate workflows between different services. This post will show you how to use Zapier to send starred items in Gmail to Range via Range's Zapier App (currently beta).

Join the early access program

Assuming you already have a Zapier account, you can connect with Range using the following link. After you have accepted the invite, the Range App will be available for you when creating Zaps.

Create the Trigger

Select "Make a Zap" from the homepage to open up the full Zapier Editor. Select Gmail from the list of apps under "1. When this happens ..." and then select "New Starred Email" as the event.

Next, choose the Google account you want to connect:

Then choose "Test and Continue". Assuming there are no warnings and errors, move onto the next phase.

Configure the Action

Under "2. Do this..." search for "Range". You will need to click "Show All" while the Range App is in Private Beta.

Next, choose "New SuggestIon" as the Range action you want to trigger, then follow the steps to configure your account and authentication.

You will then be asked to customize the suggestion.

As a baseline we offer the following steps, however you can get fancy and use Gmail's rfc822msgid search filter to make the link work for anyone on the thread.

  • Suggestion ID = Select "ID" from the gmail dropdown
  • Suggestion name = Select "Subject" from the gmail dropdown
  • Suggestion URL = Select "Message URL" from the gmail dropdown
  • Suggestion reason = Choose OPENED
  • Add to plan? = Select "yes"
  • Provider = Type "Starred in Gmail"
  • Provider ID = Type "gmailzap"
  • User ID = Leave blank, suggestions will be added for API key owner.

It should end off looking like this:

Click "Continue", then "Test and Continue", then "Done Editing". And your're done!

Congrats!

Now, test the zap. If all went well you should see a suggestion in your Range sidebar.

Note that Zapier will typically check for new emails every 15 minutes, so you won't see suggestions immediately.

If you have any problems reach out to us using the Intercom chat bubble.
